Our Ideal Authors
Interested in being a
Draft Author?
You’ll partner with Sunrise and a Lead Author to create a story in the world of the Lead Author, be mentored, and launch your career!
Who we’re looking for:
With at least a year of serious writing study already under your belt, the Draft Author will understand the structure of a great story and how to form a character. We are looking for authors who are familiar with The Story Equation—the plotting/characterization book by Susan May Warren—or at least the understanding of a Wound, Lie, and Fear to propel a character into the story.
The Draft Author will have already finished one story to completion (even if it is not ready for publication) and will have attended at least one writing class, online or in person. (We want to see a willingness to learn.)
The Draft Author will need to commit to the following:
- Attend one in-person brainstorm conference.
- Write one book (60-70K words) within the year.
- Attend weekly check-ins.
- Meet mini-deadlines.
- Meet the final deadline.
The Draft Author will create stories within the storyworld of the Lead Author, which means familiarizing themselves with previous books written by the Lead Author.
The Draft Author will be given some details about what the Lead Author is looking for in a story, but is free to submit a story idea of his or her choosing. This is NOT a work-for-hire position. We are a royalty-paying publisher (but no advance is given). We will not give preference to agented authors—our contracts are non-negotiable, so there is no need for an agent.
